The last few days have been mostly orientation and getting to know the city. I have got the metro and train system down fairly well. Last night we had an apperitivo at the stock exchange. We were early so we decided to walk around for a bit and we stumbled upon the medieval castle in milano, beautifully lit but only observable from the outside because it was closed for the night. I had my first Italian class today and we went for a field trip to a bar to practice ordering in Italian. The cashier complimented me on my italian. I am excited to learn more. Afterward we returned to the piazza di angeli, where I live, and went to the grocery store. I put together a small combination of food that would hopefully last me a day or two. While walking around a small italian woman came up to me and asked me a question. I replied "Che?" or what? in italian and she repeated it just as fast, I quickly told her "non parlo italiano." She smiled said scusi and went to another for help.
Here you have to pay for bags 5 cents per bag, they also make it mandatory that you have to recycle otherwise you are fined. There is a lot Americans can learn from these Italians.
